Expect major supply chain disruption throughout southern Brazil due to ruinous flooding.
13 May 2024
Continuous, heavy rains in the Rio Grande do Sul region have caused extreme flooding throughout southern Brazil. The flood water has not retreated from Porto Alegre’s critical areas, and more than half a million people have already been displaced from their homes.
Unfortunately, weather forecasts expect the region to continue receiving even more rain in the coming weeks. Expect the poor weather conditions to cause regular delays in supply chain operations due to closed roads, collapsed bridges, landslides, and other disruptions. In particular, freight trucks are struggling to transport cargo to and from the region’s ports.
We appreciate your understanding during these challenging conditions. OIA will continue publishing updates as the situation evolves! Please contact salesbrasil@oiaglobal.com for any urgent inquiries.
