OIA Global and Renault first established contact during a Formula 1 (F1) race in Monaco, France. Before an event, each race team’s personnel must get a “touch” and “feel” for their equipment before actually using it. OIA’s automotive logistics team met with Renault to inspect their cargo and learn about the technical details of the equipment. They left France recognizing there was homework to do before any race car transportation could occur.
A B747F plane is too expensive for race car shipping, but a B777F does not have enough space for an entire series of race cars, so OIA needed to create and implement a completely new vehicle logistics solution.
Race car transportation route: Stuttgart (STR) – Dubai (DWC) – Yas Marina Circuit – DWC – STR
OIA built its own unique car rack using a 16’ position within the airplane. The basis was a wooden box, which fit well into the B777F’s configuration and contained enough space for the cars plus additional equipment. After a live test with a Renault Megane, the Renault Motorsport team gave OIA the ‘green light’ to use its new vehicle logistics solution. OIA’s automotive logistics team immediately started working on schedules, documents, carnets, and other critical shipment details.
Vehicle logistics tailored to the customer’s specific needs: 24 race cars and accompanying equipment with a 60 ton total payload.
